Stephen Gately , Simon
As a lead singer with Boyzone, Stephen Gately became a household name. Boyzone were one of the most successful boy bands in history, who over the course of seven years achieved no less than sixteen top three singles (including six number ones), four number one albums and played to millions of fans worldwide. Boyzone was one of the first acts in UK chart history to reach the top three with their first 14 singles and the first act since The Beatles to debut at number one with their first four albums.
After such tremendous success, the band decided to split and move on to solo projects in 2000. Gately’s debut album New Beginning included 12 brand new tracks including a version of the classic Bright Eyes which he recorded for the soundtrack to the new TV version of WATERSHIP DOWN. He also became the voice of one of the characters 'Blackavar' that was created to look like him.
The single, New Beginning, was released and reached number #3 in the UK charts. Two weeks later the album was released and entered the charts. The second single taken from the album was I Believe. Released in 2001, this song also featured on the soundtrack to the film BILLY ELLIOT. Gately has appeared in numerous theater and West End productions such as JOSEPH AND THE TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG and THE WIZARD OF OZ. CREDO is his feature film debut.
UPDATE: 10th October 2009 Stephen sadly passed away at his home in Majorca. Everyone involved in Credo will miss him dearly as he was such a positive and vibrant force on the film. Our sympathies are with Stephen's family and friends.
